Gear Pump

What is a Gear Pump?

A gear pump is a positive displacement pump that carries liquid between rotating gear teeth and the casing from inlet to outlet. Selection depends on liquid viscosity, lubrication, pressure difference and operating speed. The HENVO Gear Pump collection includes KCB, YCB, 2CY, ZYB, YHCB, WCB, CBN and LCB listings for oil transfer and related duties. Fuel oil, lubricating oil and heated bitumen require different material, seal and inlet reviews; a shared pump category does not make these services interchangeable.

Applications

Oil transfer

KCB, YCB and YHCB listings cover oil-transfer duties. Identify the oil grade, transfer rate and receiving-system pressure before comparing individual models.

Lubrication supply

KCB and 2CY lube-oil listings provide starting points for lubrication-system enquiries. Specify cold-start viscosity, normal temperature and the required supply pressure.

Heated viscous-liquid transfer

The LCB listing identifies bitumen, heavy oil, wax and resin; ZYB listings include heavy oil. Review the actual liquid and temperature rather than applying one heated-service specification to the whole range.

How to Select the Right Pump?

Selection depends on the following operating conditions. Keep the units and pressure reference explicit when sending your requirement.

  1. Identify the medium

State the oil or liquid grade, additives, contamination and lubricating characteristics. Confirm wetted-part and seal compatibility for the named fluid.

  2. Describe viscosity at temperature

Provide viscosity with units at both startup and normal operation. A room-temperature value alone may not describe the load or inlet conditions.

  3. Define required flow

Give minimum, normal and maximum transfer rates and the operating schedule. A published range is a shortlist, not the selected duty point.

  4. Separate inlet and outlet pressure

Provide both pressures and pipe losses. Review the differential pressure and system pressure protection for the proposed configuration.

  5. Choose speed with the liquid

Check the selected model’s speed, motor and inlet requirements together. Changing speed affects delivered flow and the time available for liquid to enter the pump.

  6. Compare other displacement pumps

For a viscous-liquid duty, compare Screw Pump and Rotary Lobe Pump options when the medium or process arrangement points to another construction. Confirm their suitability independently.

Technical Considerations

Liquid data

Prepare the fluid name, density, viscosity and temperature range, including cold starts. Identify solids or abrasive contamination rather than assuming an oil service is clean.

System duty

Send the required flow, inlet pressure, outlet pressure and piping sketch. Include any existing pressure-relief or bypass arrangement for review.

Drive and installation

Provide power supply, proposed speed control, connection sizes and installation space. Reference the exact KCB, YCB, 2CY or other model under discussion.

Procurement Questions

Which liquids should I consider for these gear pumps?

The listings include fuel oil, lubricating oil, heavy oil and an LCB model identified for bitumen, wax and resin. Suitability depends on the exact liquid, viscosity, temperature and selected construction; these names do not establish universal chemical compatibility.

How does viscosity affect gear pump selection?

Viscosity affects inlet losses and drive loading, so provide values at startup and normal operating temperature. Review the pump speed and inlet arrangement for those conditions rather than choosing by flow alone.

Is the largest listed flow the flow at my required pressure?

Not necessarily: a published family range does not define one operating point. Send the required flow together with inlet and discharge pressures so the individual model can be reviewed.

What information should accompany a gear pump enquiry?

Include the liquid grade, viscosity with units, temperature range, flow and pressure requirements. Add power supply, operating hours, pipe sizes and the intended model if one has been shortlisted.

When should I compare a screw or rotary lobe pump?

Compare those categories when viscous-liquid characteristics, sealing or process requirements call for a different displacement mechanism. A related category is a comparison route, not confirmation that its models are interchangeable.
